Common questions.

Can I record a specific app without recording my whole screen?
Yes. Select any open window from the dropdown. ChefLapse captures it directly — even if it's behind other windows. On macOS, it works across Spaces/desktops too.
Is ChefLapse resource-heavy? Will it slow down my workflow?
Not at all. ChefLapse uses just 30-40MB of RAM while recording — far less than a browser tab. Run it alongside Blender, Photoshop, TradingView, or your IDE and you won't even notice it's there.
What does the auto-stop scheduler do?
Set a recording duration (hours and minutes) and ChefLapse will automatically stop recording when the timer runs out. Great for overnight or unattended sessions.
How does the timestamp overlay work?
Enable it in settings and ChefLapse burns the date/time directly onto each frame. Choose between full date+time or time-only. Useful for reviewing exactly when things happened in your timelapse.
What is cursor tracking?
When enabled, ChefLapse renders your cursor position onto each captured frame. Viewers can follow exactly where you clicked and moved throughout the recording.
What video format does it export?
MP4 with H.264 encoding — compatible with every video player, YouTube, and video editing software.
What happens to my screenshots after recording?
Raw PNG screenshots are saved to a temporary folder during recording and automatically deleted after the video is compiled. Only the final MP4 is kept.
Do I need to install Python or FFmpeg?
No. ChefLapse is fully self-contained. FFmpeg is bundled inside the exe and Python is not required. Just install and run.
Can I use ChefLapse for 3D sculpting or animation timelapses?
Yes! Record your Blender, ZBrush, Maya, or any 3D software window and get a timelapse of your sculpting session.
Can vibecoders use this to document their coding journey?
Absolutely. Record your IDE or browser as you vibe-code with AI. Watch back the full journey of what you built and share it.
Can I record my trading screen?
Yes. Capture your trading platform window (TradingView, Binance, etc.) and review your session later as a timelapse. Great for evaluating your decisions.
Windows says "Windows protected your PC" — is it safe?
Yes, completely. This warning appears because we're an independent developer without a Microsoft publisher certificate. Click "More info" → "Run anyway" to proceed. You can verify the file on VirusTotal.com before running.
Is there a Mac or Linux version?
Yes! ChefLapse is available for both Windows and macOS. Download the .dmg from our website. On first launch, grant Screen Recording permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Linux is not supported yet.
How do I update to the latest version?
Go to your LemonSqueezy order page and download the latest version. It will replace the old version automatically. Your settings are preserved across updates.
